About this Fixed Asset Register template
A fixed asset register records what your business owns and what it is worth on paper. This Excel template lists each asset with its purchase date, cost, residual value and useful life, and calculates straight-line depreciation down to the residual value.
Age is measured against today, so accumulated depreciation and net book value are current whenever you open the file. The summary shows total cost, net book value, this year's depreciation charge and how many assets are fully depreciated.
Good for

How to use it
Straight-line depreciation over the useful life, down to the residual value. Age is measured against today, so book values are current whenever you open it.
The file opens with sample rows so you can see every formula working before you change anything. Type your own figures over them. When you need more rows, insert them inside the existing block rather than underneath it, so the totals keep covering every row.
Functions it uses
Every one of these exists in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice, so the file behaves the same wherever you open it.
AVERAGECOUNTCOUNTIFIFERRORMAXMINSUMTODAYQuestions about the Fixed Asset Register
What is straight-line depreciation?
The asset loses the same amount of value every year: cost minus residual value, divided by its useful life in years.
Can an asset be depreciated below its residual value?
No. Accumulated depreciation stops at cost minus residual value, so book value never falls below it.
Is depreciation the same as capital allowances?
No. Depreciation is for your accounts; capital allowances are the tax relief. Your accountant handles the tax treatment separately.
