About ExcelErrorFinder
ExcelErrorFinder was built out of a simple frustration: spreadsheet errors are expensive, embarrassing, and preventable — yet the tools to catch them are either buried inside expensive enterprise platforms or too technical for the average analyst.
We've seen financial models go to stakeholders with broken #REF! cells. We've seen month-end reports built on formulas that silently paste-overwrote their own calculations. We've seen auditors miss data hidden in "very hidden" sheets that affected every number in the visible model.
So we built the tool we wished existed: free, instant, completely private, and focused on explaining issues in plain English — not just flagging a cell reference.
Why 100% Client-Side?
Every existing free spreadsheet tool either uploads your file to a server or asks you to copy-paste data into a form. Neither option is appropriate for confidential financial models, client data, or proprietary IP.
ExcelErrorFinder processes your file entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your spreadsheet data never leaves your device. We have no servers receiving your files. We built it this way intentionally — not as a marketing claim, but as a genuine architectural constraint that protects your data by design.
What Makes Us Different
- Error Explanation Panel: Every issue includes a plain-English explanation of what caused it, the specific context for that cell, and step-by-step instructions to fix it — not just a cell reference.
- Inconsistency Detection: We analyse formula patterns across entire columns to find cells that break the established pattern — one of the most common causes of silent calculation errors.
- Hidden Sheet Detection: We detect both "hidden" and "very hidden" sheets — the latter cannot be found through the normal Excel right-click menu.
- Free, always: The tool is supported by Google AdSense advertising. We will never put the audit functionality behind a paywall.
Our Solution Library
Beyond the tool itself, we maintain a growing library of in-depth guides for every type of spreadsheet issue we detect. Visit the Solution Library to learn how to fix #REF! errors, find hidden sheets, eliminate hardcoded values, and more.
