About this Net Worth Tracker template

Net worth is the simplest single measure of your financial position: everything you own minus everything you owe. This Excel net worth tracker lists each asset and liability with a category and value, and shows each line as a share of the total.

The position summary shows total assets, total liabilities, net worth, your debt-to-asset ratio and how much you hold in cash.

Good for

  • Taking stock of your finances once a quarter or year
  • Tracking progress as you pay off debt
  • Seeing how much of your wealth is tied up in property

What you fill in

The table has 5 columns. Calculated columns fill themselves in; the rest are yours to type over.

  • % of total

How to use it

Tag every line Asset or Liability. Net worth, the split and each line's share all calculate.

The file opens with sample rows so you can see every formula working before you change anything. Type your own figures over them. When you need more rows, insert them inside the existing block rather than underneath it, so the totals keep covering every row.

Functions it uses

Every one of these exists in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice, so the file behaves the same wherever you open it.

Questions about the Net Worth Tracker

What should I count as assets?

Cash, savings, investments, pensions and property at their current value. Include cars and valuables if you want them counted.

What is the debt-to-asset ratio?

Total liabilities divided by total assets. The lower it is, the more of what you own is truly yours.

How often should I update it?

Every few months is enough for most people. Save a copy each time to see how your net worth changes.
