Why Remove Blank Rows?
Blank rows in Excel cause problems that are easy to overlook:
- Broken filters and sorts: Excel's AutoFilter stops at the first blank row — data below it is ignored
- Wrong formula results: COUNTA, SUMIF, and array formulas may mis-count or mis-sum when blank rows interrupt the range
- Pivot table gaps: Blank rows create “(blank)” entries in pivot table row labels
- Import failures: CSV imports and database loads often fail or misalign when blank rows are present
- File size: Blank rows that Excel has “seen” still contribute to the file's used range and file size
Frequently Asked Questions
Does removing blank rows affect my formatting?
No. The tool removes only the empty rows themselves. All cell formatting, fonts, colours, and column widths in the remaining rows are preserved. Unlike tools that convert through plain text, this tool works directly with cell objects so styling is kept intact.
What is the difference between "completely empty" and "first column empty"?
"Completely empty" removes rows where every single cell in the row is blank — even if just one cell has content, the row is kept. "First column empty" removes any row where column A has no value, regardless of whether other columns have data. Useful for tables where column A is always a key identifier.
Will the header row be removed?
No. The tool always treats the first row as a header row and never removes it, even if it appears empty. Only rows below the first row are evaluated.
Can I remove blank rows from all sheets at once?
Yes. If your workbook has multiple sheets, you will see an "Apply to" option to process the active sheet only, or all sheets at once.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your file is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. It never leaves your device and is never sent to any server. You can even use this tool offline after the page has loaded.
